San Blas Islands Where the Guna Keep the Caribbean

San Blas Islands Where the Guna Keep the Caribbean

The San Blas Islands (Guna Yala) are 365 islands governed by the indigenous Guna people, who refused resort development. The islands are palm-fringed, white-sand postcards -- the Caribbean at its most unspoiled. Day trips involve a 2.5-hour 4x4 drive then a boat ride.

Practical notes: Book Guna-operated tours. The road is rough, the islands have no ATMs. Bring cash and sunscreen.
